Our Wii Launch Party

Wii Cleave We decided to have a Wii launch party at 1:30am. People were cool with the late start time, and we’ve got a big space and a couple decent widescreen displays. The only issue was securing the Wii’s at 12:01 am Sunday. This meant driving around with cellphones on Friday night, before ending up at Meijer some 40 miles away. They had 17 units, and we just made it in time to get 4. They gave us wristbands and told us we couldn’t leave the store (except to go out front and smoke. After last years 360 fiasco, this was heaven We got our machines at midnight and hustled back just as our guests were startin to arrive. Pics after the break.DSC_0273

Not all wiis got hooked up. Guitar Hero 2 provided the soundtrack from the small monitor.

Good fun. Can’t wait to see more pics, I was busy hooking playing wii sports and drinking. I’m gonna have to hit the flickr of someone that was paying better attention to their cameras.

Finally, big props out to Meijer, who hooked us up with an awesome launch, and gave us free soda and let us pretty much have the run of the place for 20 hours. They handled things fairly, and communicated honestly. If only all launches were handled so well…

*UPDATE* Sun 4:20pm: Got Some more pic’s from Rachel’s Flickr

These photos are pretty much exactly how I envision the Wii usecase: a bunch of people standing around having a casually awesome time.

Now when the hell is EB gonna open so I can get mine?!

Seriously jealous. I haven’t wanted to play a video game forever…I might not be able to resist this urge.

Looks awesome. I wanted to head over, but accidentally got drunk and passed out. I need to drive around now and see if there are any Wiis left after the Dawn of the Nerd.
